although i never imagined doing any of them beforehand, the activities of the last twenty-seven hours somehow seem worthy of Life Goal Completion (LGC) status.

we’ll start at the very beginning. (undeniably a very good place to start.) i woke up at eleven a.m. yesterday. after a brief breakfast i skipped down to donnalisa’s for orientation and training, then chummed around with nick, touching down at point state park, various downtown locations, and station square before heading home in time for supper. (oops .. failed to mention that we saw the “pittsburgh history” fountain show complete with snippets of song like “you are the magnet, i am the steel”. that in itself was LGC-worthy.)

nothing further of great import happened until nine, when amelia, amanda, and i << LG 47>> watched the dead poets’ society. at eleven an entire cavalcade of us pranced down to southside, making our weekly pilgrimage to the sphinx cafe where ramen, the owner, told us all we need to know before getting married. plus, i << LG 53>> didn’t knock anything over (as opposed to the first time we went and i yanked on the hose, sending the entire hookah tumbling over with charcoal spilling out onto the carpet).

as the subsequent laundry party didn’t get underway until close to two a.m., we were already fit to burst with joie du vivre or whatever you call it. there’s only so much you can do while waiting for the spin cycle to come on; i <<LG 69>> shaved my legs in the laundry sink in the presence of three males, and we <<LG 72>> ordered pizza which didn’t arrive until three fifteen, and jon soaked the entire laundry room with the hose while trying to clean his leather pants. then there were all the remaining belongings to be handwashed, like blair’s black taffeta salvation army dress which dripped like a banshee so we took it outside to shake out all the excess water. all the martins kids were inside!! they must go to sleep before five, because <<LG 89>> we were up then and they were not. so with no hesitation whatsoever, we danced up and down in front of their dorm, <<LG 94>> windmilling the wet dress like a lasso around our heads.

the logical person, seeing that it is five thirty in the morning and knowing that she must get up at seven in the morning (or, to put it simply, in one and a half hours), will simply stay up. the friendly adventurous persons, knowing their friend has an hour and a half with which to occupy herself, will invariably stay up with her. which is just what jon, blair, and i did. walking down forbes at five forty-five on a sunday morning, the intrepid traveler experiences many things: <<LG 103>> the sight of a closed seven eleven, and <<LG 116>> the eating of breakfast, pajama-clad, at the mcdonald’s in market square.

well, then it was time for showering and walking to the bus stop with ben and nick and attending the cutest little methodist church. <<LG 128>> the octogenarian librarian actually told me that they didn’t like their old organist because he was presbyterian and dragged the hymns out too long. “we methodists like to keep things hopping!” quoth she. the service was excellent, the congregation friendly, and the fellowship time quite satisfactory. (meaning they served coffee, and lots of it.) <<LG 134>> one lady thought i was “with” ben, also known as “scruffman”, which of course made my entire day.

but now it’s edging on towards three p.m. and, at the moment, all my life goals seem to be converging towards one ultimate dream: sleep. and lots of it.

happy sunday, amigos.
